PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed starting catcher Miguel Montero on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right knee.

An MRI taken Saturday night revealed a torn meniscus, which will require surgery, manager A.J. Hinch said before Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Hinch said more tests will be performed Monday to check for further damage. There is no timetable for his return.

Montero suffered the injury while running to first base in the second inning of Saturday’s loss to the Pirates.

Arizona called up catcher John Hester from Triple-A Reno to take Montero’s spot on the active roster. Chris Snyder will take over as the starter.

In four game this season, Montero was hitting .500 with three RBIs.
