SEATTLE (AP) — Thousands of people rallied in downtown Seattle Saturday, lobbying U.S. lawmakers to consider immigration reform.
The Seattle Times reports the march was organized by The Washington Immigration Reform Coalition, an umbrella group of many immigrant advocate organizations. The march was one of many held around the country, and follows a march in Washington, D.C. last month that attracted about quarter million people.
They’re meant to remind Congress that immigration is still an issue that needs to be resolved.
OneAmerica Executive Director Pramila Jayapal says that the window to introduce an immigration reform bill is very small, adding that the debate over health care overhaul may have fatigued Congress.
