JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Caster Semenya has not been included on South Africa’s squad for the African championships, though a spot has been left open for the 800-meter world champion if she’s cleared in time by the IAAF.

Athletics South Africa announced a 56-member squad on Wednesday for the event in Kenya in July. Olympic long jump silver medallist Khotso Mokoena was included.

ASA administrator Richard Stander told The Associated Press that Semenya still had time to prove her fitness. The IAAF has said it will complete its eight-month-long gender investigation of Semenya by June.

Stander said Semenya was among several athletes who could still earn a place. He said, “Like all other athletes she needs to participate.”
