The suspect in an assault of a Clark County sheriff’s deputy during a Hazel Dell traffic stop made his first court appearance today.

Clark County Superior Court Judge Robert Lewis set bail at $30,000 for Thomas D. Jackson, 25. He is being held in the Clark County Jail on suspicion of third-degree assault and attempting to elude a police officer.

At midnight Wednesday, a sheriff’s deputy had pulled Jackson’s vehicle over for an unspecified traffic violation.

Deputy Christopher Luque was trying to arrest Jackson on suspicion of providing a false name and driving with a suspended license. He was trying to unbuckle Jackson and take him into custody when Jackson allegedly pushed him away and slammed his arm in the vehicle’s door.

Luque suffered minor injuries as Jackson put the car in gear and fled.

The pursuit ended when Jackson allegedly intentionally rammed another police vehicle in the parking lot of the Teal Point Apartments, 10405 N.E. Ninth Ave, according to court documents.

Arraignment on the new charges was set for April 23.
