SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California public health officials are recalling some ground beef products sold at WinCo Food stores in six Western states, saying it could be contaminated with E. coli.

Officials issued the recall Sunday for ground beef packaged in Styrofoam trays and marked with sale dates from March 28 to April 9. The warning covers Winco Food stores in California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

Sunday’s announcement expands a voluntary recall by one Modesto WinCo last week. The supermarket chain says it learned about the bacterial contamination from an independent lab that was conducting a nationwide survey of ground beef.

California officials say an additional sample tested positive for E. coli on Friday, prompting the expanded recall.

No illnesses have been reported from the recall.
