YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — The Yakima City Council passed a nuisance property ordinance that officials hope will help police fight gang violence.
Under the ordinance that passed Tuesday a property would be declared a nuisance after three or more police calls for drive-by shootings, other violent crimes, drug activity or prostitution.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reports the property owner would have 30 days to take action or could face $500 in fines each day.
Police say more than a dozen properties would currently fall under the nuisance ordinance.
