YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — KNDO-TV reports a jury in Yakima has convicted a man in the 1993 killing of a woman whose body was found in the Yakima River.

The death of Shawna Yandell was an unsolved cold case until DNA evidence last year led to the arrest of Clayton Stafford on a first-degree murder charge.

The jury began deliberating Tuesday and returned the verdict Friday against him.

Yandell was a 21-year-old from Arkansas looking for work in Yakima when she was killed. A group of Boy Scouts canoeing in the Yakima River discovered her body on a sandbar.
