LONDON (AP) — Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been voted player of the season by his fellow English league professionals.
Rooney, who has 34 goals this season, was announced as the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year on Sunday.
The 24-year-old England international is currently injured but says he will be fit for the World Cup, claiming “the groin will be fine for the World Cup, there are no worries about that.”
United manager Alex Ferguson says Rooney will miss the final two rounds of the Premier League title race, but Rooney is hoping to play in the last match against Stoke. United is a point behind leader Chelsea.
