LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Calvin Borel has made a living on long shots, most famously 50-1 Mine That Bird in last year’s Kentucky Derby.
The jockey’s second Derby triumph in three years, though, has made him a star who no longer needs to jump on any ride that comes along. Borel is getting offers for the best horses in the game, including Super Saver for Saturday’s Run for the Roses.
The 3-year-old colt will start from the fourth post position as Borel tries for his third Derby win in four years.
Borel may not have changed much since racing to stardom, but his agent says he’s quickly become one of the go-to riders for top trainers. He’s especially in demand at Churchill Downs, where Borel is the all-time second leading rider.
