Fireworks show returning after one-year break

— After a one-year hiatus that interrupted 46 years of celebration, a new streak is about to begin.

The return of the popular fireworks show at Vancouver’s Historic Reserve is scheduled to be announced in a press conference today featuring Mayor Tim Leavitt, Fort Vancouver National Trust CEO Elson Strahan and David Moss, the local Bank of American president.

The Fourth of July celebration will be called “Independence Day at Fort Vancouver.”

The press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Vancouver Barracks inside the Red Cross Building, 605 Barnes Street.

The Fort Vancouver fireworks show was suspended last year amid financial concerns. Previously, the display was the largest on the West Coast.

This year’s show will be shot off at Pearson Field.
