WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Nationals recalled left-handed pitcher John Lannan from Double-A Harrisburg to start Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Lannan, who was the Nationals’ opening day starter the past two seasons, was optioned to Harrisburg on June 21 after he’d gone 2-5 with a 5.76 ERA in 14 starts.

Lannan was 1-4 with a 4.20 ERA with Harrisburg in seven starts. He’s taking the place of Steven Strasburg, who was scheduled to start Sunday, but was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.

Right-hander Jordan Zimmermann, who had Tommy John surgery last August, was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list and optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. Zimmermann has had six rehab starts in the lower minors.
