PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills have released top pass-rusher Aaron Schobel, giving him the option to sign with another team or retire.

General manager Buddy Nix announced the decision Wednesday afternoon after he spoke with the player earlier in the day.

Nix calls the move “the fair thing to do,” and notes that the nine-year NFL veteran has still not made up his mind about his future. Nix’s decision comes two days after announcing the Bills were moving on without the linebacker, who had spent the offseason contemplating retirement.

Schobel did not participate in any team activities this offseason and was placed on the Reserve/Did Not Report list when he failed to show up for the start of training camp in suburban Rochester last week.
