ISLAMABAD (AP) — A government official says a bus plunged into a rain-swollen river in eastern Pakistan, killing at least 20 people.

Chaudhry Imtiaz says around 20 other people who were riding on the bus in Pakistani-controlled Kashmir Thursday are still missing and feared dead. Eight injured passengers have been rescued.

Imtiaz is the deputy commissioner of Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistani-controlled Kashmir.

Pakistan has been wracked by extremely heavy monsoon rains that have swollen rivers and caused devastating flooding that has killed 1,500 people in the past week.
