PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — Nippon Paper Industries USA plans to build a $71 million cogeneration plant at its Port Angeles mill that will use forest biomass.
The Peninsula Daily News reports the project would produce 20 megawatts of energy that would be sold to power companies.
Port Angeles mill manager Harold Norlund says the project will create 20 new jobs and use forest residue that would otherwise be left in the woods or burned in slash piles.
The mill makes paper used for telephone books, other custom paper and newsprint.
