JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — The Alaska Marine Highway System wants to double the ferry service next summer to its southern terminus in Bellingham, Washington.
Ferry service between Bellingham and Southeast Alaska has been cut in recent years to save money. But the Juneau Empire reports the ferry Columbia is traveling nearly full.
Ferry system spokesman Roger Wetherell says it is proposing to add the ferry Kennicott to the Bellingham route. Public meetings are planned next week on the proposed changes, with the final schedules to be released by fall.
