PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino was activated from the 15-day disabled list Thursday before Philadelphia hosted the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Victorino, sidelined since July 28 with a lower abdominal strain, wasn’t in the starting lineup. Ben Francisco was in left field against left-hander Clayton Kershaw, with Jayson Werth remaining in center.
The switch-hitting Victorino was batting .250 with a career-high 15 homers in 99 games.
The Phillies, who are without All-Stars Chase Utley and Ryan Howard, survived a scare when they learned Ross Gload’s groin injury, suffered during Wednesday’s game, was not serious.
“When it happened, I thought it was,” said Gload, adding that he could pinch hit as a last resort.
