Colts’ Painter hoping for new start in Indy

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) — Curtis Painter is hoping Colts fans are willing to give him a second chance.

Seven months after the New York jets scored off a Painter fumble and picked off a Painter pass, ending the Colts’ quest for perfection, Painter will finally take his first meaningful snaps at Lucas Oil Stadium since then.

Sunday’s preseason opener against San Francisco won’t carry the same high stakes, either.

Starting quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Alex Smith aren’t expected to play long, leaving the stage open for Painter and former Ball State quarterback Nate Davis. The two Indiana products have only met one other but will likely spend the bulk of the game on the field.

For Painter, it’s a chance at redemption.
