EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — The city of Everett has eight pianos on the downtown streets this summer as part of a public art project, and they’re getting a lot of use.

That and the heat are playing havoc with the tuning.

That’s where Charles Wilson comes in. The 30-year-old blind immigrant from Haiti learned his craft at the School of Piano Technology for the Blind in Vancouver.

The Daily Herald of Everett reports he has a $2,000 contract with the city to keep the Street Tunes on key.

It takes time to make the pianos sing. Wilson says he hates mediocrity and would rather take a longer time tuning a piano to do it right.
