PIITSFORD N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills rookie receiver David Nelson has been carted off the field after hurting his lower right leg.

Nelson was hurt an hour into practice Tuesday during a team red zone drill. Making a catch over the middle, Nelson turned toward the end zone as he was hit by a defender.

Nelson fell awkwardly and lay on the field. Trainers spent about 5 minutes working on his right foot. He was loaded onto a cart and was unable to put any weight on his right foot. Nelson is an undrafted rookie free agent out of Florida.

The Bills did not have an immediate update on his status.

Buffalo is down two receivers entering its preseason game against Indianapolis on Thursday at Toronto. Rookie Marcus Easley is set to have surgery on his left knee. James Hardy has missed a week with an undisclosed injury.
