BAKER CITY, Ore. (AP) — Prison inmates in eastern Oregon are being paired up with rescued dogs to help the dogs find new homes.

The program at the Powder River Correctional Facility in Baker City will focus on retraining dogs with behavioral problems.

Many abandoned dogs have behavioral problems, often resulting from abuse or neglect, that prevent them from being adopted.

Officials told the Baker City Herald that finding volunteers for retraining dogs is difficult because most people just don’t have enough time for the job.

But the inmates will be able to devote the time and attention needed.
