PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon Health & Science University says it received a record $392 million in research funding for its 2010 fiscal year.

The figure included $70 million in stimulus funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The previous record was $307 million last year.

Among the health research projects that received funding were a study of the biological markers of Alzheimer’s disease, a survey of the availability and effectiveness of cancer screening in rural Oregon and a study of factors that result in the development of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

OHSU officials said the research also helps fuel the state economy, including spinoff companies started by OHSU faculty.

The state’s health research university employs about 13,200 people and is the largest employer in the Portland area.
