BAKER CITY, Ore. (AP) — The odds of drawing a tag to hunt bighorn sheep are so long that Fred Riggs didn’t even bother to try until he was 83 years old.

At 84, he beat the odds.

Starting Aug. 28, the Richland, Ore., man will get his chance to bag a bighorn. His hunt in the Lookout Mountain unit runs through Sept. 8.

Bighorn sheep tags are so scarce that, by law, hunters are limited to one in their lifetime.

Riggs joked to the Baker City Herald that he got the coveted tag by putting a little honey on his application and it stuck to someone’s finger.
