CHEHALIS, Wash. (AP) — Lewis County Sheriff Steve Mansfield says he and several deputies have brought a man charged in last weekend’s triple homicide back to the southwest Washington county from Spokane. John Allen Booth Jr. of Onalaska was booked into the Lewis County Jail Friday evening.

Booth was arrested Wednesday night in Spokane after a statewide manhunt. Mansfield says the 31-year-old man is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of second-degree murder, attempted murder and extortion. His next court appearance is set for Monday afternoon.

Authorities have said they believe the shooter in the Aug. 21 triple killing in the town of Salkum may have been trying to collect on a drug debt.

Killed were 52-year-old David J. West Sr., his 16-year-old son, David Jr., both of Salkum, and 50-year-old Tony E. Williams, of Mineral. A fourth person, a woman, was injured.

Two other men have been arrested in the case.
