LONDON (AP) — ESPN has hired Ross Hair as head of its London-based operations for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Hair joins ESPN from Sony Pictures Television and will replace Lynne Frank, who announced in April she was leaving as chief of the network’s EMEA division to return to California for personal reasons.

Hair’s previous employers include Nickelodeon UK and satellite TV broadcaster BSkyB, while he also directed strategic planning at ESPN Star Sports in Singapore.

ESPN International Executive Vice President Russell Wolff says “Ross joins at a time of tremendous momentum in the U.K. and across EMEA for ESPN.”

ESPN’s presence in Britain has grown since 2009, when it launched a live sports channel after buying the rights to show English Premier League soccer.
