NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) — Oregon’s crab fishermen and processors have reached agreement on a season-opening price for Dungeness crab. The details could delay the season, which was supposed to have started Wednesday.
Oregon Agriculture Director Katy Doba says that boats will collect crab samples to verify that the crabs meet quality standards. If they do, fishermen will get $1.65 per pound, effective immediately.
If the fleet waits until Dec. 12 to start the harvest — allowing a safe period to set out crab pots — the price will be $1.675 per pound.
Price negotiations didn’t conclude until Tuesday night.
If the quality standards aren’t met, the two sides reconvene to set another price.
