Police converged in Camas late Wednesday night after being told that a man had flashed a knife at the Safeway there and fled with a pack of cigarettes.
The armed robbery was reported about 10:10 p.m. Wednesday. Officers with the Camas Police Department rushed to the scene, as did officers with the Washougal Police Department, Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Vancouver Police Department, Camas police Sgt. Rob Skeens said later.
Officers quickly took positions around the area, including nearby parks, and also watched for the man along nearby BNSF Railway tracks, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.
A Vancouver police tracking dog also was deployed to sniff out the man’s trail.
