WENATCHEE, Wash. (AP) — A 19-year-old man accused of killing his girlfriend’s 10-month-old son entered a guilty plea in Wenatchee to a reduced charge of assault.
The Wenatchee World reports Felipe Alvarez Jr. was sentenced Wednesday to three months in jail.
In an Alford plea he admitted a jury would likely convict him of the assault charge. Prosecutors said they could not prove who caused the fatal injuries.
Alvarez was accused of slapping, spanking and shaking the child, Neftali Kai Garcia Jr., last June. Alvarez told police he found the boy unresponsive and took him to the hospital.
