YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — Several defendants in Yakima County Superior Court say they’re sticking with their lawyer, even though she’s facing criminal charges of her own.
Yakima lawyer Kimberly Grijalva was charged last month with second-degree theft and bringing contraband to the county jail. She allegedly arranged for certain inmates to make free phone calls that bypassed the jail’s recording system and also of providing a cell phone to an inmate.
The Yakima Herald reports that Judge Blaine Gibson held a special hearing Friday to see if seven of Grijalva’s clients wanted new representation. None did.
Grijalva has been released on bail and continues to work as an attorney. She has been an attorney in Washington since 1999.
