SAN DIEGO (AP) — Satellite TV provider DirecTV Inc. has agreed to settle lawsuits with prosecutors in 50 states who claimed the company hid fees, failed to provide promised channels and conned customers into extending contracts.

California Attorney General Jerry Brown says DirecTV will pay $13.25 million to California, 48 other states and Washington, D.C. He says the settlement was filed Wednesday in San Diego federal court.

The El Segundo company also will pay $1 million to Washington state in a separate settlement and will make restitution to customers.

Brown says about 1,100 state residents complained about DirecTV practices.

DirecTV agreed to clearly state all fees, cancellation charges and contract terms. The company says the settlements formalize many changes it’s already implemented.
