PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A Portland architect has been sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison for possessing child pornography in a case that led to investigations across the United States and in foreign countries.

Paul Pavlock pleaded guilty in September in Washington County Circuit Court to 10 counts of encouraging child sex abuse. Oregon Attorney General John Kroger says the investigation identified more than 85 suspects in 20 states and 19 foreign countries.

The 44-year-old man was also ordered to pay $40,000 in restitution to two victims.

Judge Thomas Kohl said Tuesday that the sentence he imposed was heavily influenced by a victim’s statement read in court by a lawyer. The now-19-year-old woman wrote that she lives every day knowing that someone is being entertained by her pain.

The Pavlock investigation began in October 2008 with a tip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
