Marquette dominates in 81-52 win over Centenary

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Darius Johnson-Odom scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half as Marquette beat winless Centenary 81-52 on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles (8-3) scored the first eight points of the game and never trailed.

Maxx Nakwaasah scored 17 points to lead the Gentlemen (0-12).

Marquette had a 51-29 rebounding advantage and never were seriously challenged by Centenary.

Freshman Vander Blue also scored 16 points on 8 of 10 shooting for Marquette. Jimmy Butler, the team’s leading scorer at 15.7 points per game, was held to 10 points but had 12 rebounds.

Marquette blew the game open with 12 consecutive points in the second half, with Blue scoring six points and capping the run with a 12-foot jumper for a 51-30 lead with 12:38 left.

The Golden Eagles stretched the lead to 79-49 on a layup by freshman Jamail Jones in the final minute.
