SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The sentencing phase in the trial of a man convicted of killing two police officers in an Oregon bank bombing resumes Monday with the defense arguing the jury should spare the life of 34-year-old Joshua Turnidge.

The prosecution is seeking the death penalty for him and his father, Bruce.

The jury has already decided the father’s sentence. That won’t be announced until both are read.

The jury’s alternatives to capital punishment are life sentences, either with or without the possibility of release after 30 years.

The Salem Statesman Journal reported the prosecution rested Friday after presenting witnesses to show the younger Turnidge would be a danger in prison. The defense got started with testimony from a psychologist who said it was improbable that Turnidge would be violent in prison.
