McNeese State edges Sacramento State 65-63 in OT

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — Jeremie Mitchell hit a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left in overtime to give McNeese State a 65-63 victory over Sacramento State on Sunday.

The Cowboys (7-4) were playing their second straight overtime game after a 78-66 loss to LSU.

McNeese State led most of the extra period until Sultan Toles-Bey scored on a layup with 1:39 left for a 61-60 Hornets lead. The Cowboys’ C.J. Collins and Sacramento State’s Jackson Carbajal each made two free throws before Mitchell’s game-winner.

The Hornets (3-7), who are 0-5 on the road, led 21-9 before McNeese State got within two. Sacramento State rebuilt a 32-21 lead by halftime.

In the second half, McNeese State tied the score four times, finally pulling ahead 56-54 with 1:03 left. John Dixon’s jumper with 36 seconds left forced overtime.

Stephan Martin paced the Cowboys with 15 points and Carbajal led the Hornets with 17.
