NEAH BAY, Wash. (AP) — The Coast Guard says a fishing boat rescued two people who abandoned their sinking yacht in the Strait of Juan de Fuca (FEW’-kuh) near Neah Bay.

Petty Officer Kelly Parker in Astoria, Ore., says the people on board the 72-foot wooden yacht Scout radioed they were taking on water about 6 a.m. Monday. He says the yacht sank. The two were picked up by the fishing boat Mandico and appeared to be in good condition.

A Coast Guard boat from Neah Bay is with the semi-submerged yacht. No word yet on what caused it to go down.

Parker says the yacht was traveling from Newport, Calif., to Vancouver, British Columbia. The two people on board have not been identified.
