The good news for Brandon Roy is that he will be able to spend Christmas at home with his family.

The bad news, however, is that his team will be playing on Christmas, and he won’t be there.

Blazers president Larry Miller announced Tuesday that the shooting guard will not make Portland’s pending three-game road trip, which begins Christmas Day at Golden State, and ends at Denver on Dec. 28.

Roy, whose left knee has hampered him virtually all season, has already missed the Blazers’ past three contests and was sidelined for a three-game stretch in November due to the same injury.

The 26-year-old said Friday that he would sit out Portland’s three-game home stand and would be re-evaluated at some point this week.

Portland, which is 5-1 without Roy this season, swept its recent three-game homestand, albeit against a trio of teams with a combined record of 26-58.

Roy is averaging 16.6 points per game this season, almost five points fewer than his average last year.

Portland guard Rudy Fernandez has been the primary beneficiary of his absence, averaging 18.6 point over the past three games, a major uptick from his 7.1 average of the season.
