EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New York Giants have signed cornerback Brian Witherspoon and placed punt returner Will Blackmon on injured reserve.

Blackmon, who was signed as a free agent in late October, hurt his knee against Philadelphia on Dec. 19 and missed Sunday’s game in Green Bay. He averaged 6.7 yards on 14 returns in five games.

Witherspoon has played in 22 career games for Jacksonville and Detroit, primarily as a returner. He was waived by the Carolina Panthers before the start of this season.
