Insitu successfully tests new type of engine

The technology is being incorporated into Insitu’s entire roster of unmanned aircraft systems, enhancing overall equipment performance, especially in extreme temperatures and at high altitudes including mountainous terrain, said Insitu officials on Tuesday. Insitu, located in Bingen, is an independent subsidiary of Boeing Co.

Insitu designs, develops and manufactures unmanned aircraft and provides associated services for commercial and military applications.

“Heavy fuel with electronic fuel injection provides a 40 percent improvement in mission endurance over the previously demonstrated capability,” said Bill Clark, vice president of emerging programs for the company.
