Vancouver native Janice Arnold, an internationally recognized textile artist, will present a program at Wednesday’s meeting of the Fort Vancouver Knitters Guild.

Her presentation will be at 7 p.m. at 717 Grand Blvd. Arnold will discuss her handmade felt art, including her recent “Palace Yurt” installation in New York City at the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.

Arnold, one of today’s leading hand felters, recently was awarded a 2009 Artist Trust Fellowship from the Washington State Arts Commission.

In her Centralia-area studio, Arnold combines raw wool with a wide variety of fibers and other material to create fabrics ranging from dense thick felt to lightweight filmy textiles.

Arnold said she was just told that her fabric will be featured on an upcoming cover of American Craft magazine.

Her work has been featured on the Martha Stewart television show, in the The New York Times and in several design journals and arts magazines.

The event is free to members; there is a $5 charge for non-members. For information, call 360-735-5957.
