Prep roundup: Prairie’s Comeau second at state bowling

River’s Naramore one pin back in third place

Prairie’s Katryn Comeau finished second in the individual championship, edging out Columbia River’s Holly Narmore by one pin for the highest finish by a Clark County bowler at the Class 3A/2A state bowling tournament.

Comeau finished with a 1096 pin total for a six-game series (183) average, with a high game of 219.

Comeau had the highest score in the tournament after four games, leading Klahowya’s Carys Bailey by 13 pins.

But Bailey finished with games of 181 and 213 to win the state title with a six-game total of 1143.

Naramore’s six-game series included games of 212, 211 and 200 as she finished with a total of 1095.

Sarah Dolan of Union was 10th (1031) and Fort Vancouver’s Lauren Lefebvre was 12th (1008). Tessa Friason of Prairie, last week’s district champion, placed 22nd (925).

Heritage’s Makayla Douglas was the highest finisher in the 4A tournament, placing 13th with a six-game total of 1000 and a high game of 189. Mountain View’s Kelcee Humprhey was 20th (959) and Battle Ground’s Lindsay Quint was 24th (936).

Prairie (3A) and Heritage (4A) continue in the team competition today with the baker games that begin at 8 a.m. at Narrows Plaza Bowl in University Place.

Boys basketball

Skyview 66, Evergreen 63 — The Storm clinched at least a tie for the 4A Greater St. Helens League title with the win over visiting Evergreen.

Skyview (12-6, 7-1) climbed out of an 11-0 deficit in the first quarter with an 18-3 run. Tyler Paluck scored 10 of his 20 points in the first quarter for Skyview. He also had 10 rebounds in the game. Jordan Chatman also had 20 points for Skyview.

Evergreen (6-12, 3-5) was hurt by a 7-for-22 effort from the free-throw line. In the fourth quarter, Skyview shot 10 of 13 from the line.

Evergreen’s Caleb Dressler led all scorers with 21 points. Richie Townsend added 15 points and Warren Edmonsen 14.

Battle Ground 75, Mountain View 60 — A big fourth quarter and the play from point guard Willie Bratcher helped the Tigers surge past Mountain View and create a tie for third place in the 4A GSHL.

Bratcher scored 15 points, was 9 for 10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, and helped break the Mountain View press after the score got tied at 42 midway in the third quarter. Bratcher also had six rebounds and six assists

Battle Ground (9-8, 4-4) pulled away with a 31-18 advantage in the fourth quarter. Chad Futrell led all scorers with 18 points. Jake Belford added 12.

Mountain View (10-8, 4-4) was led in scoring by Lucas Swanson’s 17 points. Ryan Johnson had 12 and Dominique Lincoln 11.

Union 77, Hudson’s Bay 64 — Chris Morgan scored 18 points led four Union players in double figures as the Titans capitalized on Hudson’s Bay turnovers to pull away in the third quarter.

Caleb Whalen added 16 points, Kyle Holmes 13 and Taylor Nelson 11 for the Titans (11-7, 6-2 3A GSHL).

Hudson’s Bay (12-6, 4-4) was led in scoring by Darius Goldman’s 14 points and Gabe Foster had 10.

Mark Morris 62, Hockinson 46 — The Monarchs extended their lead in the 2A GSHL standings over second-place Hockinson with the road win. Dalton Thacker and Sean Atkins each scored 17 points for Mark Morris (14-1, 6-0).

Joshua Hall scored 17 points for Hockinson (10-6, 4-2) with Mitch Tugaw adding 12.

R.A. Long 87, Woodland 53 — Jordan LiDrazzah scored 11 points and Josh Gleason added 9 — both career highs — for Woodland.

Ridgefield 56, Washougal 26 — Scott Backstrom scored 21 points to lead Ridgefield past Washougal. Michael Schwinof added 10 points for the Spudders (8-8, 2-4 2A GSHL).

Stevenson 68, La Center 36 — Andrew Olsen scored 15 points, and Nick Gavenas had nine points and nine rebounds as Stevenson remained in first place in the 1A Trico League.

Danny Waters helped provide the spark off the bench as the Bulldogs (11-5, 6-1) held visiting La Center (4-13, 2-6) to nine first-half points.

Garret Davis led La Center with 12 points.

Girls basketball

Camas 57, Columbia River 41 — Melissa Williams scored 30 points as the Papermakers outscored River 40-16 in the second half to maintain control of second place in the 3A GSHL.

Camas converted 17 of 25 free throws. Laura Luther led River with 14 points.

La Center 62, Stevenson 20 — Lauren Baker scored 20 points with four 3-pointers and seven steals as the Wildcats kept Stevenson winless.
