County GOP plans caucuses

Precincts will elect delegates Feb. 13; Dems meet in April

Clark County Republicans will hold their precinct caucuses Feb. 13 at a dozen locations around the county. Participants will elect delegates and alternates to the county GOP convention, which will be held Saturday, March 20, at Prairie High School. Registration for the precinct caucuses begins at 8:30 a.m.; the caucuses convene at 9:30 a.m.

Washington GOP Chairman Luke Esser urged Republicans to get involved this year at the precinct and county levels.

“If Republicans turn out in record numbers at Republican caucuses and conventions across the state and get organized early, we can lead the election of a Republican to the 3rd Congressional District, defeat U.S. Sen. (Patty) Murray, and pick up legislative seats,” he said in a statement.

Washington Republicans will hold their state convention June 10-12 in Vancouver.

Washington Democrats, who usually hold their precinct caucuses on the same day as Republicans, won’t do so this year. Clark County Democratic Chair Dena Horton said the party will instead hold legislative district caucuses as part of its county convention April 10 at Hudson’s Bay High School.

At that gathering, county Democrats will choose delegates to the Washington State Democratic Convention, which will be held June 25-26 in Vancouver.

“The Clark County Democratic Central Committee invites all Clark County Democrats to participate on April 10 in the delegate selection process and to hear from our Democratic elected officials and our outstanding candidates for local, state and federal office,” Horton said.
