Eagles finish alone in third place in boys 3A GSHL

The long-range shooting of Derrick Brooks propelled Hudson’s Bay past Fort Vancouver 65-61 in a Class 3A Greater St. Helens League boys basketball game on Friday.

Brooks hit two of his five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, including a key basket after the host Trappers pulled within two points. He finished with a game-high 19 points.

Hudson’s Bay (14-6, 6-4 3A GSHL) finished alone in third place in the league with Friday’s victory.

Fort Vancouver (10-10, 3-7) built a seven-point lead in the first quarter, but Bay used a 25-point third quarter to gain the lead. The Eagles hit four of their eight 3-pointers in the third period, including two from Brooks.

“We just couldn’t keep up with that pace,” Fort coach Scott Thompson said.

Though the Trappers stayed within striking distance, they never had possession in the fourth quarter with a chance to tie the score.

Hudson’s Bay will host fourth-place Camas (10-10) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The winner earns a bi-district playoff berth and will take on second-place Prairie in the district semifinals.

R.A. Long 63, Ridgefield 61 — Ian Mahncke made the game-winning shot for the host Lumberjacks with 2.9 seconds to play. Mahncke finished with a game-high 21 points as R.A. Long (8-8, 5-3) stayed within one game of second place in the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League.

Dylan Young had tied the game for Ridgefield (8-10, 2-6) 61-61 on a free throw with 25 seconds play. Ridgefield’s final 3-point attempt at the buzzer missed the mark.
