Both Knights teams win third-place games at district

Third-year basketball programs at King’s Way Christian are headed to state.

Both the boys and girls wrapped up spots to Yakima with wins in third-place games at the 1B district tournament Saturday at Montesano.

The King’s Way-Seton Catholic girls used solid defense to get past Washington School for the Deaf, 30-13.

The King’s Way boys had solid games from Matt Johnson and Christian Bukant to defeat Three Rivers Christian 44-37.

Johnson had 14 points, six rebounds and three blocked shot, while Bukant had eight points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Edrienne Chan led the KW-SC girls in scoring with 19 points, and the entire team held WSD to single digits in all four quarters.

The 1B state tournament opens on Wednesday at the SunDome in Yakima. First-round pairings will be announced today.

Rainier 68, La Center 41 — A 24-3 first quarter launched Rainier (17-5) into the Class 1A state tournament, while La Center (14-6) will play again on Thursday. Marissa Moore led the Wildcats in scoring with 11 points.

La Center must win two loser-out games to reach the state tournament. The first comes Thursday at Kelso when the Wildcats face either Ilwaco or White Salmon. If La Center wins Thursday, the Wildcaats will play another loser-out game next Saturday in Kelso.
