YELM, Wash. (AP) — With no sign of a camper who apparently fell in the Deschutes River near Yelm, the Thurston County sheriff’s office told KOMO News the search is now a recovery operation.

Lt. Paul Counts says divers are out again Monday searching pools in the river below Deschutes Falls.

Friends say 20-year-old Jay Nelson of Rainier camped Friday night on a cliff and may have fallen into the river.

The search began Saturday and divers also searched Sunday.

The sheriff’s office says the property where the group went camping is a former private park that was purchased by the county and has been closed to the public for years.

Counts says it’s posted “No trespassing” because it’s very unsafe.
