Blazers expected to waive Randolph

Forward could be re-signed if he clears waivers

— The Portland Trail Blazers are expected to waive forward Shavlik Randolph on Wednesday, a source informed The Columbian.

If Randolph is waived, it will be done to prevent his non-guaranteed contract from becoming guaranteed Jan. 10. Should Randolph be released and clear waivers, he could then be re-signed by the Blazers to a 10-day contract.

Randolph is averaging 2.0 points and 0.5 rebounds for Portland, and has recorded five minutes of action in two games.

The 6-foot-10, 236-pound Randolph was signed by Portland on Dec. 30 with the team's second NBA hardship exemption. He was added to the team's roster to provide depth at the center position — injured Blazer centers Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla are out for the season.

Randolph's current run with Portland marks his second time playing for the team. He played in 10 games for the Blazers in 2008-09.

Randolph began the season with the Miami Heat, but was waived Dec. 14.

“It feels good to be back home,” Randolph said Dec. 30. “This became my home. Just the guys on the team became like my family. And I missed them even when I wasn’t here.”
