McClenan, Kruse lead Clark women

Chawncy McClenan scored a game-high 26 points and Lacey Kruse added 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds as the Clark College women’s basketball team beat Grays Harbor 70-55 in NWAACC West play on Wednesday.

McClenan is a freshman power forward and Heritage High School graduate. Kruse is a freshman center from White Salmon. Renee Tzeo, a freshman guard from Reynolds High School in Troutdale, Ore., had 11 assists and seven rebounds.

Clark (4-5, 1-1 NWAACC West) led 43-28 at halftime, maintaining the 15-point advantage at the end of the game..

“I feel pretty good about it,” Clark coach Nancy Boone said. “We needed a road win. We need to shore up our defense a little better and play a little better team offense. But it was a good win, and I think the kids feel good about it. We’re a little beat up. I feel like a M*ASH unit.”

Christina Hay led Grays Harbor with 12 points, Regina Kirkland added 11 and McKenzie Hargaeon had nine points, eight rebounds and six assists.

CLARK (4-5, 1-1) — Lacey Kruse 16, Renee Tzeo 7, Chelsea Dyson 12, Tashia DeLaCruz 2, Michelle Marthini 6, Chawncy McClenan 26, Tore James 1. Totals 28-67 14-17 70.

GRAYS HARBOR — Megan Lettell 2, Regina Kirkland 11, McKenzie Hargaeon 9, Katelynn Patterson 6, Christina Hay 12, Cristol Harris 5, Jessica Foster 2, Gurleen Cheema 5, Maggie Stamper 3. Totals 18-62 14-22 55.

Halftime—Clark 43-28. Rebounds— Clark 50 (Kruse 11), Grays Harbor 43 (Hargaeon 8). Assist Leaders—Clark, Tzeo, 11; Grays Harbor, Hargaeon, 6.
