Emergency response teams offer training to the public

Residents of the Camas, Washougal and Orchards areas can learn to protect themselves, their families and their neighbors in disasters by taking Community Emergency Response Team training.

East County Fire & Rescue is offering the training on Thursday evenings from Jan. 14 through March 4, according to the Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency, which operates the 911 center.

Classes cost $20. The registration deadline is Monday, but several openings are available. Call Nancy Hoober at 360-835-7767.

Vancouver Fire District 5 has Thursday evening classes from Jan. 28 through March 18, for $30.

Participants will learn about emergency medical care, building searches, fire suppression and other skills that will prove useful in disasters such as earthquakes, floods, tornados and terrorist attacks.
