TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A 10-year-old girl with a passion for dance is helping some less fortunate kids, one pair of ballet slippers at a time.
On Tuesday, Drew Buckley of Tampa handed out dozens of pairs of new ballet shoes to the third, fourth and fifth grade students of the Metropolitan Ministries Partnership School.
The students, some of whom live in a homeless shelter, take ballet classes as part of their physical education class. But the kids were dancing in their stocking feet. That upset Drew, who is able to take private dance lessons.
She said having ballet slippers would make them feel “like a real ballerina.”
Drew and her mother collected $1,700 in donations to buy the shoes, and vow to continue raising money to buy dance supplies for the kids.
