Prep roundup: Putback at buzzer lifts Evergreen girls

Justine Joudrey rebounded her own miss and scored at the buzzer to lift Evergreen to a 42-41 win over visiting Heritage in a Class 4A Greater St. Helens league girls basketball game.

After rebounding a miss at the defensive end, Joudry drove into the key and took a short jumper with three seconds on the clock. She grabbed the rebound and scored as time expired.

Joudry finished with 13 points. Shamerica Scott led the Plainsmen with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Clara Russell paced Heritage with 14 points.

“It was the type of win that we needed to have,” Evergreen coach Jay Foreman said, noting that his team has not had to rally often this season. “We had fight hard the whole game to get back in it, and we had to fight hard at the end to win it.”

Skyview 60, Battle Ground 40 — Delaney Keser scored 14 points and Macy Mukensnabl added 12 in a balanced attack as the Storm went ahead early and remained in control throughout the game.

Point guard Aubri Squires had 14 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals for the Tigers. Kiley Thomas had 12 points and Haley Grossman had 10 points, five rebounds and three blocks for Battle Ground.

Prairie 57, Union 32 — Playing their first game since losing sophomore post Heather Corral to a knee injury, the Falcons used defensive pressure to beat the Titans.

Union outrebounded Prairie 34-21. But Prairie’s defense forced 36 turnovers from the Titans. Angela Gelhar scored 17 points to lead Prairie, including 9 of 11 free throws. She hit a couple of key 3-pointers at the start of the season half to spark the Falcons.

Camas 54, Hudson’s Bay 39 — The Papermakers made some second-half adjustments to pull away from the Eagles.

Camas led 27-24 at halftime, but outscored the Eagles 27-15 in the second half.

Haley Smith had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Camas, and Melissa Williams added 15 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Lexi Gleason’s 16 points led Hudson’s Bay.

Columbia River 41, Fort Vancouver 8 — Aimee Bolton had 13 points, four steals, three blocked shots and seven rebounds for River, which led 28-0 at halftime.

Woodland 51, R.A. Long 33 — Emily Smith had 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead the visiting Beavers. Smith scored 11 in the fourth quarter to help Woodland pull away.

Mark Morris 40, Hockinson 33 — The Monarchs held the host Hawks to nine field goals, and used solid starts to each half to build the lead. Ashley Haden led Hockinson with 11 points.

La Center 69, White Salmon 28 — Marissa Moore topped four Wildcats in double figures in in the win at White Salmon. La Center outscored the Bruins 27-2 in the second quarter.

King’s Way-Seton Catholic 33, Vancouver Christian 32 — Edrienne Chan’s jumper with nine seconds left in overtime gave the King’s Way-Seton Knights a one-point win over visiting Vancouver Christian. Chan had 20 points and scored all six of her team’s points in the extra period.

Columbia Adventist 50, Washington School for the Deaf 31 — Chiane Hendrix and Carly Waymire scored 14 points each to lead the Kodiaks to a Columbia Valley League win.

Boys basketball

White Salmon 62, La Center 58 — Mark Lovin scored 21 points and Felix Torres added 17 as the host Bruins won a tight Trico League contest.

La Center (3-9, 1-1 Trico) had a chance to tie in the closing seconds. Four Wildcats scored in double figures, Garrett Davis had 13 points, six steals and four assists. Mick Jarvie had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Columbia Adventist 64, Washington School for Deaf 34 — Landon Roberts scored 16 points and Bronson Dull and Ramon Aguayo added 13 each to lead the Kodiaks.
