Try This: Bravo! among best of weekend

Bravo! Vancouver’s latest concert features a mix of jazz and classical music. Nine Pacific Northwest musicians will perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Piano Quintet,” as well as Chris Brubeck’s classical and jazz crossover piece, “Vignettes for Nonet.”

Portland-area musicians include pianist Maria Manzo, clarinetist Michael Kissinger and flutist Rebecca Olson.

When: 2 p.m. Sunday.

The concert is just one of several weekend entertainment options in Clark County and Portland. Others include a humorous production of Shakespeare plays, a continuing art exhibit and the release of a film with scenes that were shot in Vancouver.

  1. Slocum House puts new twist on Shakespeare

Time is running out to catch the Slocum House Theatre Company’s latest production, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged).”

The irreverent production features all 37 of William Shakespeare’s plays over the course of two hours.

When: Through Jan. 31, with performances at 8 tonight, Thursday, Friday and Jan. 30; and 2 p.m. Sunday and Jan. 31.

Admission: $13, $11 for seniors 60 and older and children 12 and younger.

  1. Art exhibit offers perspective

The latest exhibit at Clark College’s Archer Gallery spotlights work that explores perspective — visually, contextually and perceptually.

The exhibit, continuing through Feb. 6, features regional and national artists using sculpture, video, computer animation, photography and installation.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays, and 1-5 p.m. Saturdays.

  1. Fadin’ by 9 mixes it up

Fadin’ by 9 will take the stage in downtown Vancouver. The group performs a mix of bluegrass, folk and classic ’60s rock.

  1. Ford, Fraser go to ‘Extraordinary Measures’

Brendan Fraser and Harrison Ford created a stir in Clark County last year when they spent a few days filming scenes for “Extraordinary Measures,” which arrived in theaters Friday.

Several scenes were filmed in Vancouver. Scenes were shot in the Columbian’s former offices, across from Esther Short Park, as well as Big Al’s in east Vancouver.

“Extraordinary Measures” follows a father (Fraser) with two children who are diagnosed with a fatal disease. He teams up with an unconventional scientist (Ford) to find a cure but faces challenges along the way.
