Prairie’s Corral has microfracture surgery

Heather Corral was on crutches Friday night, but she was still hanging out near the lay-up drill during pre-game warmups.

She gave high-fives to all of her teammates, a few knuckle-bumps, too.

And she promised to be back playing for the Falcons next season, even after a severe knee injury.

Corral had microfracture surgery Jan. 15 on her right knee to repair the anterior cruciate ligament as well as torn meniscus and cartilage.

“I can’t put any weight on it for six weeks,” she said. “A regular ACL (surgery), and I’d already be putting weight on it.”

She has been told, though, that the recovery time is about the same, five to seven months.

“I’m going to rehab hard,” she said.

Corral is also a talented soccer player, but that sport is on hold indefinitely.

“I can’t risk it. I love basketball. I want to play basketball,” she said. “If I’m going to get hurt again, it’s going to be in basketball, not soccer.”
